What is Wedge Anchor?

Wedge anchors are integral to many projects, providing a secure connection between walls, ceilings and other objects. They consist of two pieces – an anchor, usually made of steel, and a metal wedge which expands and locks it in place when tightened to the anchor. Wedge anchors are useful in outdoor applications where their rust-resistant properties keep them looking good and functioning effectively for years. As they can withstand tension and shear forces, they are often used to join heavy objects such as window frames or large wall decorations to concrete surfaces. Wedge anchors have three parts: an anchor body, a threaded stud bolt, and an expansion clip. The anchor body is inserted into the hole drilled into the concrete or masonry material; then, the bolt is inserted through whatever needs fastening and screwed into the anchor body. As the bolt becomes tighter against the anchor body, it expands outward using the expansion clip—creating a strong bond with the surrounding material that won’t come undone easily.

For example, drop-in type wedge anchors feature pre-assembled nuts; these eliminate time-consuming installation steps and ensure that your job gets done quickly and efficiently.
