Can wedge anchors be removed once they have been installed?

Typically, wedge anchors are not designed to be removed from the hole. Once installed, the fastening is intended to maintain its hold permanently. If a project requires a removable anchor, other anchor types such as a concrete screw anchors or adhesive anchors used with an internally threaded insert would likely be more suitable.

If an existing wedge bolt needs to be removed what engineers and contractors have done in the past is either:

· Core out the existing wedge anchor
· Abandon the anchor, shave off the excess at the surface
Each of these methods have their own set of considerations for a project, particularly if another anchor is intended to be installed.
